Having at last had a chance to read the first New 52 collected volume of Wonderwoman i was prepared for another painful take of a DC character along the lines of Worlds Finest or Captain Atom, yet i found myself surprised that Wonderwoman herself was quite recogniseable as Wonderwoman and was herself largely unchanged. At least in the six issues within this volume.
In fact were it not for the New 52 tag, this seemed like it would have fitted in as another writer retconning/ignoring the previous writers work as some Wonderwoman writers have been inclined to do even when they were meant to be working within a continuity. So while Wonderwoman herself has been left largely intact, the world around her and it's inhabitants from the gods to her fellow Amazons, have been considerably altered, when her mother appeared i almost confused her for Zealot ( platinum blonde in red armour amazon type hero formerly of the Wildstorm Universe who should now be part of DC when someone remembers ).
The Brian Azarello Wonderwoman reboot tries hard to be quite different from the 1987 George Perez reboot, and goes out of his way to make this quite clear. His greek Gods are crueler, more akin to the ancient myths in some respects with some exceptions particularly with Ares sorry... "War" as he is called, who far from a spiteful, childish butcher of the old myths, or from the dark lord who attains wisdom ( in the Perez years, although later writers kept bringing him back as a Wonderwoman badguy as though he was a Supervillain ), seems neither friend nor foe so far.
The story revolves around Wonderwoman protecting a woman pregnant by Zeus, King of the Greek Gods, from the rage of Hera, Zeus's wife and Queen. Hera also has a bone to pick with Wonderwoman who in this incarnation is also a child of Zeus, unusually Zeus didn't adopt a form to 'seduce' Hippolyta instead taking a leaf from the Red Sonja movie and dueling her until she fell for his charms ( which is really only a mild step from the myths in how Zeus 'seduces' a woman, although involving less unusual transformations ). So currently the book has a curious 'Hercules the Legendary Journeys' TV feel with casting Hera as the current big bad villain.
So i find myself having mixed feelings on one hand it has ditched a lot of things i liked, but the main character, largely thanks to very little characterisation, pleasingly still comes across to me as the old version of Diana regardless of the new outfit and world. Admittedly i'm not keen on the 'Daughter of Zeus' thing, nor of Hera who looks the part but has a psychotic personality,( but i have my own view on the greek goddess that is at odds with most interpretations of her persona anyway, so that doesn't matter ). The writers strange choice to have some of the Gods go by their names ( Zeus, Hera, Hades ) and some to go by what they are god of ( Ares is now called 'War' while Eris is now 'Strife', even by their fellow Gods) which is a little bizarre and makes me think that maybe the writer considers the readers to be stupid.
Also jarring is some of the dialogue, some of which just doesn't sound like it should, or would, be uttered particularly by Hera, or Wonderwoman. It is almost as though the writer is at times trying too hard to make the comic and characters somehow modern and relevant and not getting the characters sounding right, although i guess that is editorials fault as much as the writer. Still this has been the least irritating New 52 comic yet for me, so that is something i guess.

It's been a while...again
I haven't posted anything in my Journal in years now, and i just wanted to say thanks to those who have followed my DA work. From those who have only recently followed me to those who have been there for ages and seen my work improve, thanks. Hope to continue.
Well...
The above video, pretty much sums up my feelings concerning the recent events in the British Parliament concerning the surreal efforts by a number of British politicians to prevent Britain leaving the humble 'trading block' that is the European Union ( aka 'Brexit' ), by rapidly introducing a law preventing Britain leaving under 'No Deal' and requiring a deal to be met.
The only deal currently on the table would more or less remove what benefits of being in the EU there are, while also removing the benefits of being an independent nation, while still providing large amounts of money to the EU indefinitely ( Britain is the second highest con
DC TITANS Trailer
So that TITANS trailer... erm... well... Raven is about right, Dick Grayson is way off ( seemingly more like the stroppy and violent Jason Todd ), we saw little of Beast boy, someone in production forgot to mention that Starfire doesn't have flame projection powers ( she fires green energy blasts that she calls Starbolts and has super strength ), and did i just see the traditionally rather pacifistic Dawn Granger/Dove ( and the counterbalance to the violent Hawk ) shred a mans face ? ... hm.
I have concerns about the tone and the interpretation of the characters, if they wanted dark and gritty, DC does have the characters, but they just don'
It's been a while...
It's been a while since my last journal entry, i just haven't really managed to get a decent train of thought to form it into anything. I haven't yet seen the new Star Wars film, but my enthusiasm dwindled after The Force Awakens and Rogue One, both of which were okay at best, but let me be blunt, i enjoyed Gods Of Egypt more than either of those Star Wars films. So i guess i'll once again wait for the DVD before i give my real opinion on this new Star Wars movie, although what i already know does not sound promising, that being said i could well be surprised.
For example, the surprise of the year for me in movies was with Justice League, wh

How I would write Wonder Woman:
1. I would probably change the gods and goddesses since Diana is an Amazon not Greek, and the Amazon would probably have their own mythology even if it is similar to the ancient Greeks. I don't know if I would change their names or not but is on the table.
2. I would keep Diana's personality the same but would change her appearance to something more like this aaaaceace.deviantart.com/art/s… or this aaaaceace.deviantart.com/art/W… . I think it is tiem for her to loss the corset and start wearing something a more respectable. When she was first created Diana's costume was a pretty big thing for it's time, because the idea of a woman actually wanting to dress sexy for herself was revolutionary. But now maybe it is time to pull back from that, at least for Wonder Woman. Also giving her short hair makes sense because her enemies will have a harder time grabbing it and making her a bit more masculine shows girls that they don't have to be feminine.
3. Finally I would make her lesbian and her younger sister straight. I think seeing her coming from a culture where lesbians are the norm and being straight is the abnormal would rather interesting. Also her dealing with her younger sister's sexuality and having to accept it would make a great story. The final reason is that making Diana a lesbian would end this Wonder Woman and Superman romance, I really hate that paring because it is not based on their characters as Diana and Clark but only as Wonder Woman and Superman.
