Powergirl reads. by adamantis Powergirl reads. by adamantis
While Powergirl is exercising, she has a flick through the scripts of her New 52 incarnation, and is less than impressed.

My opinion on the New 52 Version of Powergirl [link]

I always found the DC heroes to be very human in their character, it's one of the things i liked about them. Thanks :)

So your main complaint with her outfit is they got rid of the stupid boob window, gave her pants, and some identity by giving her an emblem.

Strange, you missed out mentioning the altered personality.

I've only just started reading comics, so Powergirl's current personality (which I have no real problems with thus far) is, to me, her only personality.

That said, I can certainly understand why would not like such a big and unwanted change. I'll have to check out her pre-New 52 comics to see what I've apparently been missing.

Her early days in the Justice League International is worth a look, her time with the JSA was also good but sometimes gave the feeling that the writer was trying to ignore that her time in the Justice League had ever occurred. Her excellent solo series is definitely worth reading along with the 'Justice League Generation Lost' story that tied to it.

Very nice expression - right in character. But I have to ask - is that boulder giving her much exercise?

That.. is an interesting point ...err it's an exercise to tone her arms rather than build muscle size :D

Alright. I didn't mean to come across as uber-picky. In fact, we don't have to justify every little thing in our pictures. A good work of art is its own justification. And this is good.
Now, back to Pickyville. If the power of Kryptonians on Earth derives from our sun, their physical condition is pretty much irrelevant. If Ralph Kramden was Krypton born, he could lift his bus with a finger, even though overweight and out of condition. So I guess Peej WAS toning her arm, for appearence's sake. Even though she makes it clear that she does not wish to be admired for her physical attributes, she still must take a certain pride in them. Very human attitude, that.

Hey Adam ,
stellar work as always , it does piss me off that they turned her into a slutty , vain , dumb blonde in worlds finest with helena doing most of the thinking.
connors powergirl was none of those things , she could think by herself and was fun. atleast the costume is back :D .

Thanks, i could have just about accepted the costume change ( without the silly 'P' symbol ) but the reinvention of her character just made me wonder why they bothered calling her Powergirl when neither the costume nor personality were there.

Maybe they will ( accidentally or intentionally ) revert her personality back to match her old costume.

As long as she will always reduced to her assets (says sex symbol), there will be no character developement. Grow up fanboys, girls and women are more than breasts and asses!

If you read the comics, her previous personality that went with this costume was much more interesting and positive than the current one.

I know, but for me this is definately not a question of the costume! And to be honest, most readers didn't protested because of the poor story. They just want the (in)famous boob window back! And that's the problem. For many she's just a hot blonde girl with big boobs. This people don't care about the story, character developement doesn't matter too. Just one thing counts. Guess what!

From the beginning on was she drawn as a sex symbol and the costume accentuated it even more. It worked from the economical context (sex sells you know) but it leads the character straight into a dead end. I fear she will be trapped there forever. New 52 wasn't the first try to change this. They all failed, and future attemps will too. For me it's a pity.

My thought exactly when I saw the costume revamp to start out the new World's Finest. Thankfully, they brought her back to her iconic outfit. Nice job with the coloring here and the I like the darker shade under the boulder she's holding making it realistic. Gorgeous job on her and her outfit, boob window and all:love:

Thanks, i'm still baffled by the decision to turn Powergirl into her polar opposite, by covering her up and giving her the horrid personality of an attention seeker she was in some ways the closest thing to a 'Bizzarro Powergirl'.

That is exactly how I reacted when I saw her on the cover of one of the New 52 comic books. Fuck the new costume.

Long live the cleavage window.

Yep, I felt the biggest mistake with that initial costume was giving her a unneeded, unbalanced chest symbol. Then i gave the comic a try and decided the biggest mistake was rebooting away everything, that in my opinion, kind of made her Powergirl.

I was surprised by how different the Worlds Finest version of Powergirl felt, and not just her costume ( i can generally cope with costume changes, she's been given a fair few over the years ), her whole character seemed almost reversed, which put me off.
