Powergirl : Dark Star (8) Helpless ? by adamantis Powergirl : Dark Star (8) Helpless ? by adamantis
As Powergirl and the Starro possessed Captain Atom fought in outskirts, dust clouds rose from the increasing intensity. Kara initially had the upper hand, though Starro seemed to be becoming increasingly in control as It began to suppress Nathaniel's dogged resistance.

Using her heat vision confirmed her fear that extreme heat didn't affect Starro, if anything It thrived on the heat, increasing in size. She had to think. Her train of thought was interrupted by a shattering blow that catapulted her into the ground, as the dust cleared Kara was still on the ground.

Starro approached with a mix of caution and satisfaction, Its opponent Powergirl's breathing seemed laboured, heavy as her chest rose and fell, she was clearly injured enough to remain still while It prepared itself for replication.

Starro drew close using Nathaniel's body to pin Kara firmly to the ground as Starro's body grew and erupted additional tentacles as It prepared to replicate Itself, slowly It's bodies began to separate as the new Starro opened it's maw in preparation to possess the fallen Kryptonian.

The air by Kara's face grew cold.

" You will become one with me, like your mate. There is nothing you can do to prevent this now. As one of your amusing popular cultural gems puts it, 'resistance is futile' "

It chuckled once more in it's hissing manner.

Starro was now an inch from the apparently helpless Kryptonian, It's tentacles dripping from anticipation when suddenly the freezing blast from Kara's lips struck 'It' point blank, freezing the new Starro solid...

( Starro had a vulnerability to cold in the JLI story that kind of inspired this. I have taken that for my version and made it a much greater weakness, potentially fatal, while making him near impervious to almost any other physical form of attack )

That thing reminds me of Doom's Eye from Shadow the Hedgehog.

I know Starro was one evil bad guy it's funny that only Batman Brave and Bold bought him back, but I thought he was indeed a very good opponent to the Justice League without being too dramatic he was sinister, and he was a good excuse to have them fight each other

He does tend to be underused, but it adds to his creepiness when he does get used.

That's really true, although Brave and the Bold and Starro.... sigh, I had the opposite feeling of it to New 52, it was very 80s (the original work which was great the Brave and Bold comics) and the Tv Show made them super goofy, more then what have been intended, and it's ironic as those stories are very solid, that's where so much of modern Batman started to get away from his goofier 70s self

Karen, pinned to the ground, subdued and close to defeat and enslavement by Starro.

I love the perspective you had on this one, with her eyes closed, unable to resist due to the Starro-controlled Captain Atom restraining her arms, and (apparently) weakened by Starro's attack. She looks so (adorably) helpless and vulnerable here. But...deception is an effective defense and a prelude to trapping your enemy!

I read a quotation once, from US General George Patton. After the Nazi's broke through our lines in the Battle of the Bulge in Dec. 1944, Patton had anticipated just such a breakout and within 24 hours had already turned his attacking divisions from attacking east to attacking north against the German flanks. Patton was gleeful and, loosely quoted, said "I'll get the Hun's head in a noose, and then I'll cut off his balls!"

Interesting quote, makes sense to me :)

It made sense to me for her to play possum, with Starro possessing Captain Atoms energy/heat throwing body ( that is pretty much as durable as she is ), a straight fist fight was never going to work without someone getting badly injured or killed, so she had to use her head to beat It.

Thanks. I wanted to give it a 'near desperate situation' moment sort of look. Though the means of her getting out of it are in there too.
