Powergirl faces off against a nightmarish opponent. A sign of things to come, or a threat she has already faced ? The only certainty is that she won't back down.


This costume was used mainly in her time during the Justice League Europe way back in 1990 to 1991, until the events of 'Armageddon 2001' and 'Breakdowns' shattered Justice League teams led by The Martian Manhunter J'onn J'onzz and Captain Atom. In spite of being such a short lived outfit ( being dropped pretty much once the writers and artists changed, which was a turn for the worse for Powergirl, and not just from a costume perspective since her classic look didn't come back for years afterward ), i have some affection for this outfit alongside her classic white leotard/blue boot/red cape outfits.

I'm thinking of using this outfit on the character for a while with my fan story work, i've ditched the 'Ancient Atlantean' symbol for reasons that i will cover but will make sense when i get to it, although i'm considering including the Alantean aspect that haunted Powergirl into the story rather than just ignoring it.

I like this! You've made that yellow costume look better than in most of its comic book appearances. Removal of the silly Atlantis reference makes it totally rock!

I would think that for practical reasons the costume details would be kept simple. Having to draw the complicated Atlantis symbol repeatedly would slow down production and threaten to break deadlines. And of course they don't look right. They say "gratuitous add-ons" to me. And who wears an emblem identifier on their abdomen? It gives new meaning to the phrase "Eyes up here". Even the costume design itself can be needlessly complex. The post-yellow, blue/red/white with the neckerchief-cape was way too busy.

Agreed, it was not a good look for her, and i really wasn't keen on the whole with how she was written at that time.
