Justice League International

Description

A reunion of some of my favourite DC characters from the 1987 era Justice League International.

 This was the Justice League that had writing that made the characters almost seem to be like actual people, with stories that ranged from World threatening, to random slices of life. It could be dark, but above all, it had wit, heart, and it was fun. A benchmark rarely matched.

From Left to right the front characters are ;

Ice/Tora Olafsdotter (JLI) - A sweet natured heroine gifted with the ability to generate and shape ice, she was gentle, naive, and the love of the hyper macho jerk Green Lantern Guy Gardners life. Best friends with Fire, the pair are almost inseparable.

Fire/Beatriz Dacosta (JLI) - A former Brazilian spy and Ice's best friend, she adored being a hero and the attention of being part of the Justice League International. Initially only able to breath green fire, her abilities later changed so that she could transform herself into a pyroplasmic being. She is able to fly, generate fire blasts and shape/control her fire.

Booster Gold/Micheal Carter (JLI) - Traveling from a possible 25th Century, Carter sought fame, wealth and excitement. His costume is in fact a sophisticated battle suit that enhances his strength allows energy blasts, flight and has a directional force field. He became Blue Beetle's Best Friend.

Martian Manhunter/J'onn J'onzz (JLI) - The last surviving Green Martian, formerly a husband and a father, he has been a core element in most forms of the Justice League and is almost a father figure to the colourful band. With abilities rivaling a Kryptonian and impressive telepathy, J'onn was the team leader of the American branch of the League and even gave Batman a firm talking too about his attitude. Very fond of eating Oreo's... seriously do not mess with his Oreos.

Blue Beetle/Ted Kord  (JLI)- A none powered hero who relies on his physical and mental abilities, wearing a bullet resistant mesh costume and using non lethal weaponry, Ted Kord assumed the Blue Beetle identity in honour of Dr Dan Garret, his friend, mentor and the original Blue Beetle, and made it his own. He became best friends with Booster Gold.

Crimson Fox/Vivian and Constance D'aramis (JLE) - Twins who took turns as the heroine Crimson Fox, of the two Vivian prefered being a hero rather than a wealthy industrialist, vivacious and playful she adored teasing the more easily embarrassed male teamates. Very intelligent, capable gymnasts and exceptionally good hand to hand combatants with their steel tipped claws.

Captain Atom/Nathaniel Adam (JLE) - Originally the US governments spy on the league, he fostered trust based on government fabrications ( covered in his own comic ) given his high standing after the INVASION event, he was given his own team to lead, the Justice League Europe ( JLE ). Inspired by his teamates genuine heroism, he sought to live up to the standards they set, coming clean about his origins. Arguably more powerful than his entire team put together, with near Kryptonian powerlevels.

Flash/Wally West (JLE) - The former sidekick to the Barry Allan Flash, the super speedster Wally West assumed the mantle after Barrys death. In spite of being compared to Barry as though he were inferior ( by both villains and teammates ) Wally proved to be more than up to his predecessor legacy and is for many, the greatest Flash.

Powergirl/Karen Starr/Kara (JLE) - Something of a devils advocate and fractious friend to team leader Captain Atom, and object of lust for Wally West ( though it is possible he was compensating for being intimidated by her ). After magic based injuries stripped her of her Kryptonian abilties other than her strength, reflexes and durability, Kara grew increasingly irritable for some time ( compounded by a chemical imbalance caused by diet soda ). Gradually her abilities returned. She has a beloved Cat that mauled Guy Gardner.

Elongated Man/Ralph Dibny (JLE) - Able to stretch himself Ralph Dibny is actually a capable detective that even Batman has some respect for. Ralph Dibny has been in several versions of the league, was on good terms with everyone and became a good friend to Wally West.

Back row from left to right ;

Sue Dibny (JLE) - The Elongated mans wife and effectively part of the JLE's support staff, being quick thinking and determined, Sue notably was responsible for organising the saving of Powergirls life while Captain Atom was left indecisive from guilt. A voice of reason in a storm of superpowers, she was very involved in the Justice League International era.

Rocket Red/Dimitri Puskin (JLE) - The Russian government allocated member of the team, Dimitri was a married father to two children and served his country in the armoured Rocket Red Brigade, who wore formidable powered armoured suits created by the Green Lantern Kilowog. His original armour torn apart by the alien Lobo, Dimitri upgraded by being given an ancient Apokaliptan battle suit, which made the original suits seem like tin foil. Good natured and heroic, Dimitri struck a good friendship with Captain Atom.

Catherine Cobert (JLE) - The U.N. Liaison to the league, the attractive Miss Cobert was witty, patient and intelligent. Catherine ran the day to day operations of the JLE, and was quite taken with Captain Atom, very nearly having a romantic relationship that events ultimately conspired to prevent. Catherine is also notable for turning down a proposition from Booster Gold, which Blue Beetle found hilarious.

I just love the Justice League International one of the best and coolest concepts that have been used in the Justice League. I'm tremendously sad that DC Comics has completely wasted the chance to bring the team back in the DC Universe New 52 and the title was canceled after only a few issues. Similarly feel an immense shortage of Global Guardians simply the first super-team of international heroes of the DC Universe comics emerged in a number of the Super Friends and then introduced into the regular DCU. I'm sad to remember the cruel way destroyed the Global Guardians hunted and killed by Prometheus that prototype of "Batman of Evil" that should not have been a character that important and super-estimated solely been created to be another of the supporting bizarre Grant Morrison in its phase in, command, the Justice League. I would love if bring the two super-teams back not as "rivals and adversaries" but as complementary super-teams. The Justice League International would be one sitcom humorous as the Global Guardians would be a sitcom adventure and intrigue policy. I even thought the formations of the Global Guardians and the Justice League International and although I do know that no one ever do anything so I would like to show only the title of curiosity . I also added a Justice League America along with the ones placed on each continent. I also have ideas for a "more serious" version of the Justice League Antarctica with superheroes "not so pathetic" that would be a team that would face threats of forgotten times that hide the ages under the ice and snow of Antarctica and would fight also threats to the Antarctic ecosystem with 7 members for the team . Ok here they are...

The Justice League Antarctica was a big joke made by Keith Giffen and JM DeMatteis. They put as members, completely idiotic characters that nobody wanted as members of the JLI and they sent us to the place farthest from the Earth to get rid of them forever. But the situation would be very different today. With global warming, pollution and destruction of the eco systems and the threat of melting of the polar ice caps and the consequent increase in the level of the oceans and flood the continents a super-team to take care of Antarctica would no longer be as "absurd". I put superheroes ecological concern with the preservation of the environment and empowered about the cold on the waters on the magnetic field of the poles and on the Antarctic animals.
