Blue Beetle and Maxima

Description

Maxima shows Ted Kord, the Blue Beetle, some of the sights of her homeworld of Almerac.

A commissioned request from :iconcyclops1991: for a pairing of Maxima and Ted Kord's Blue Beetle.

As couples go i think there is some milage here in this fan pairing that Cyclops1991 suggested. They served together in the Justice League, and in spite of Teds considerable physical inferiority to Superman/Captain Atom/Aquaman/Amazing Man, his courage and intellect combined with his daft charm could probably have impressed the Space Princess. And of course Ted would finally have someone who could give Mr Miracle's wife Big Barda a decent arm wrestle when they visit :).

Ted Kord's Blue Beetle was a constant member of the Justice League from 1987 until DC's 'Big guns' were pushed back into the league around 1997. The inspiration for Watchmens Niteowl, Ted was an excellent athlete and genius with a sense of humour and a habit of getting out of shape and overweight. Unfortunately light hearted and fun characters didn't cut it in the mid 2000's DC universe with Ted being murdered by a former friend. It still looks unlikely that he will return to the mainstream universe partly due to the reasonable popularity of his teenage super powered replacement and due to the lack of interest in him or the heroes of his era from writers and readers.

Maxima is a former foe of Superman, but was never really what you would class as an actual villain, she sought the Man of Steel as a potential mating partner. A powerful Alien Princess with physical abilities to rival Superman, near unrivaled offensive psychic capabilities and a martial outlook on life, she posed a formidable opponent for the Man of Steel and had no qualms about killing.

Eventually after several clashes with Superman and being part of an Invasion of Earth by Warworld, she would join the Justice League. She fought against Doomsday, and later joined Captain Atom's proactive wing of the Justice League when it broke into three separate Leagues ( the other groups were led by J'onn J'onzz and Wonderwoman ) and more or less filled the same position that Powergirl had years previously until the leagues disbanded and were replaced by the 'Big Gun' league ( Superman, Batman, Wonderwoman, Flash, Green Lantern, etc ). At which point Maxima, like so many others, drifted.

Sadly it was apparently decided that Maxima's growth as a character would be ignored and she was reset back to chasing Superman. Maxima was then killed off in the early 2000's, mostly i suspect from no one having any idea what to do with the character.

Both characters belong to DC comics.
